Top Attractions in Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari is a small seaside town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, close to the border with Kerala, the most western state in the country. being the southernmost point of India, the meeting point of the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean, and the Arabian Sea. Still, the town is associated with the virgin Goddess Kanya Kumari and has a unique magical meaning. In order to win Lord Shiva’s hand in marriage, it is also thought that Goddess Kanya Kumari made apologies there. The town is well-known as a pilgrimage site for those who visit its temple and offer sacrifices.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial

During his visit to Kanyakumari, revered Indian poet and philosopher Swami Vivekananda meditated for three days on a big offshore rock, where it is believed that Goddess Kanya Kumari fulfilled part of her vow of penance by standing on one foot. In 1970, a memorial was erected on the rock in honor of Swami Vivekananda. On the rock, there is also a carving of the Goddess's foot.
